Commander Flores and John Mack, IL State Police, on “Security in Administrative Hearings and Safety for Administrative Law Judges.”

Commercial Litigation Committee
Business meeting for subcommittees to report on their work and make subcommittee assignments for the upcoming year.

State & Local Tax Committee (IL MCLE Credit)
Paul Caselton, Illinois Department of Revenue Deputy General Counsel Income Tax Policy, and Louise Calvert, Illinois Department of Revenue Program Administrator, will discuss the status of recently proposed income and sales tax regulations, some of which may become effective during the 2008 tax year.

Unauthorized Practice & Multidisciplinary Practice (IL MCLE Credit)
John O'Brien, the 2nd Vice President of the ISBA, will discuss the current status of UPL issues in Illinois.

9th Annual Justice John Paul Stevens Award Luncheon - September 11
Join the CBA and CBF as they honor the lawyers and judges whose careers emulate the integrity and spirit of Justice Stevens. The program will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2008, in the Grand Ballroom at The Standard Club, 320 S. Plymouth Ct., at Noon. We are delighted to announce that U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens will again be in attendance to provide the keynote address for this year’s Award Ceremony. Honorees include Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas R. Fitzgerald, John B. Simon of Jenner & Block LLP, and U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Ann C. Williams. BeBop and Beyond: Barristers Big Band September Concert - September 19
Join the CBA's Barristers Big Band for "BeBop and Beyond" on September 19, 2008, 6:00 p.m., at the Pritzker Auditorium, Harold Washington Library, 400 S. State Street, Chicago. The Band is a twenty-five piece jazz ensemble composed judges, lawyers and other members of the legal community. Admission to the concert is free and open to all.

Lawyers Needed to Judge Annual Moot Court
The Young Lawyers Section will host its 27th Annual Moot Court Competition on November 13-15, 2008, at the Dirksen Federal Building in Chicago. The YLS needs attorneys to act as competition judges and brief graders. Volunteer brief graders are asked to review and critique approximately 4-5 briefs near the middle of October and volunteer competition judges are needed on the evenings of November 13 and 14 (5:30 or 7:30 p.m.) and the morning of November 15. Competition judges will receive one hour of Illinois MCLE credit for each round judged. (Please note, the MCLE Board requires a $20 fee from attorneys reporting MCLE credit for non-traditional MCLE activities such as judging the CBA's moot court competition. This fee is paid directly to the MCLE Board at the end of your MCLE reporting period). CBF Pro Bono Support Program
Pro bono can fit anyone’s schedule and interests! Opportunities are available in virtually every area of law and range from commitments of one or two hours to extended trial and appellate work. The CBF Pro Bono Support Program serves as a clearinghouse for attorneys to find pro bono opportunities.
